A personal story of Monica Roelofs about her experiences as a Consultant at Iperion – a Deloitte business.

My first months at Iperion – a Deloitte business

Only a few months after my graduation, I got into contact with Iperion – a Deloitte business. I have a background in biomedical research and innovation in healthcare and I was eager to start making a difference after these years of studying. Although at first it was not clear to me how being a consultant at Iperion would allow me to make my change in the life sciences and healthcare industry, I did immediately sense the passion and drive in this team. The more conversations I had, the more I understood Iperions role in the industry and how its work for clients contributes to the improvement of healthcare. This combination of passion and significance triggered me to become part of team Iperion.

I vividly remember my first day as an Iperion team member. Due to COVID19 measures, I had to start my new job from home (luckily I was able to go to the office after two months!). It was a bit challenging to start my new position like this, however the open atmosphere in the team allowed me to feel included even from a distance. Although I already had knowledge and understanding of the industry in general, I realized there is much knowledge for me to develop specifically with regards to regulatory information. However from the first day on, I was provided with the support and guidance to develop myself quickly. Yes, it is challenging. Yes, it requires dedication. But also, yes, it is so rewarding!

It is interesting to see how my work is connected to different layers in the organization and that together we make an impact on the client.

I recently even started working on my first project. In this project we focus on data compliance of the clients medicinal product information. I am mostly involved in the collection of data from different sources within the company, that describes and identifies the different medicinal products. In order to achieve regulatory compliance our team also aligns the data to the provided regulatory guidelines. Although it may seem that way, my role in this project is not just about data collection. While working on this, I also learn for instance about processes, technologies and dynamics within the organization that are involved in and affect data storage and compliance. It is interesting to see how my work is connected to different layers in the organization and that together we make an impact on the client.

I am proud of the contributions I make not only to the client, but to my team as well. What makes my position here special for me, is that it is much appreciated to develop both your skills and personality. I feel included, appreciated for who I am and what I bring to the table, and I am learning how to make use of my character traits in my position as a consultant. To me it is interesting to notice the positive effect of a highly motivated environment on my own development. In the past four months, not only did I learn about the industry and what it is like to work as a consultant, I already learned a lot about myself as well. I am really looking forward to the next four months and many, many more to come.
